THE LUCIDITY INSTITUTE CATALOG
SPRING '97
LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER
To All Dreamers,
I want to tell you about a priceless treasure that belongs to each
of us. This treasure, the ability to dream lucidly, gives us the
opportunity to experience anything imaginable -- to overcome limitations,
fears, and nightmares, to explore our minds, to enjoy incredible
adventure, and to discover transcendent consciousness.
Ordinary dreams give a hint of these possibilities, through their
regular violation of the rules of waking life, and their occasional
offering of insights into our lives. The art of dreaming is a
learnable skill, and I believe the highest level of that skill is
found in lucid dreaming. Lucid dreams are dreams in which you know
that you are dreaming, and are aware that the dream is your own
creation.
With lucidity comes an astonishing, exhilarating feeling of freedom
-- the knowledge that you can do anything, unbound by any laws of
physics or society. One of the first joys of many lucid dreamers is
flying: soaring like a bird, freed from the restraints of gravity.
From there, people can go on to discover the vast power of lucid
dreaming for transforming their lives.
I came to lucid dreaming myself in the late 1970s. I was amazed to
discover this fascinating, yet wholly natural, state of
consciousness. Most significant to me was that lucid dreaming could
be accessible to everyone, because everyone dreams. With the help of
colleagues, I proved scientifically that lucid dreams happen in
ordinary dreaming sleep, the kind we all have several times a night.
Since then, I have been studying the brain state associated with
lucid dreaming, and developing ways of helping people learn this
valuable skill.
Through my research, I developed mental exercises for stimulating
lucid dreams, and was able to train myself to have lucid dreams many
times in a night. The techniques were difficult, however, requiring
great concentration and time. I recognized that most people would
not have the time and energy necessary to achieve success in this
way, so I focused my research on inventing technological means of
assisting people to have lucid dreams. The result has been the
DreamLight and NovaDreamer, two electronic devices that aid in
learning to lucid dream.
While I was engaged in this work, I was inundated with requests from
people around the world for information on how to have more lucid
dreams. So, I founded the Lucidity Institute to be a source of
knowledge, guidance, and products to help people achieve lucid dreams
and use them to enhance their lives. The products in this catalog
represent the range of methods I have found to be helpful for acquiring
lucid dreaming skills.
In addition to offering lucid dreaming products and training, the
Lucidity Institute has a membership society through which people
contribute to the advancement of lucid dreaming research, both
financially with their membership fees, and directly by
participating in the experiments, published in each issue of
NightLight, The Lucidity Institute's newsletter.
The Lucidity Institute's primary purpose is to support research on
lucid dreaming and similar states of consciousness and to make the
results of this research available to the public. To help us achieve
this goal, I encourage you to join us by learning lucid dreaming,
participating in NightLight experiments and sharing your insights
and experiences with us and your friends. Help spread the word about
lucid dreaming. We at the Lucidity Institute think it will help make
the world a happier place.
Towards more light!

ABOUT LUCID DREAMING
WHAT IS LUCID DREAMING?
Lucid dreaming means dreaming with full awareness that you are
dreaming. It most often occurs when you realize in the middle of a
dream that you are dreaming. Many people have had this experience at
least once, often awakening immediately after the realization. It is
possible to remain in a dream for up to an hour while being aware
that you are dreaming.
DREAM CONTROL
The onset of lucidity usually brings with it some degree of enhanced
control over the course of the dream. How much control is possible
varies from dream to dream and from dreamer to dreamer. Through
practice, you can develop increased skill at directing your dreams.
At the least, in a lucid dream you can choose how you wish to
respond to the dream events. Even a small amount of control can
transform a dream from an experience of helplessness and frustration
into the delight of forgetting the cares and concerns of waking life
to enjoy complete freedom. And those who can achieve mastery of
lucid dreaming gain the power to create any world, and live out
fantasies, limited only by their imaginations.
THE BENEFITS OF LUCID DREAMING
Experience unparalleled adventure. Discover the ecstasy of flying.
Explore strange new worlds. Dare dangerous exploits (without real
danger). Enjoy complete sexual freedom. Fulfill your wildest
fantasies.
Tap creative inspiration. Throughout history, dreams have inspired
many ideas and inventions in a variety of fields. With lucid
dreaming you can go directly to the inner source of creativity to
stimulate ideas and solve problems.
Enhance your abilities. Lucid dreams feel so real that you can use
them to practice and improve skills. Lucid dreamers have used their
dreams to develop expertise in sports, music, dancing, public
speaking, surgery, mathematics, and many, many other fields. The list is
endless!
Overcome fears. Nothing can hurt you in a dream, and when you are
lucid, you know you cannot be harmed. Simply becoming lucid in a
nightmare can be enough to banish the fear and end the nightmare.
The confidence you acquire from facing dream fears can extend into
your waking life, where you can use it to face and overcome fears
and inhibitions that may be hampering your progress and limiting
your freedom.
Discover transcendence and illumination. When you attain lucidity in
a dream you realize that what you had only a moment before taken for
the reality of waking life is actually a dream, an all-encompassing
reality created wholly within your own mind. This experience
illustrates in a powerful way that the "reality" we experience, is
in our minds, not "out there" in the world. The Tibetan Buddhists
have used lucid dreaming for many centuries to help them attain
realization of the illusory nature of experience. Such revelation is
a sign post on the road to transcendence of ordinary being.
HOW TO LEARN LUCID DREAMING
There are a few basic approaches proven to assist the development of
the ability to have lucid dreams. The Lucidity Institute offers a
selection of products that utilize each of these methods. For the
most effective lucid dreaming training program, we recommend
purchasing a DreamLight(R) or NovaDreamer(R) and using it in
conjunction with A Course in Lucid Dreaming (which is included with
all three devices). The Trance Induction of Lucid Dreaming audio
tape can complement any method. To keep up to date on the
latest findings of our research, become a Lucidity Institute member,
read the NightLight, and participate in the experiments. Membership
is included with purchase of a DreamLight or NovaDreamer.
THE PRINCIPLES BEHIND LUCID DREAMING TRAINING
When you awaken from a dream, it is immediately obvious to you that
you were dreaming. Why didn't you realize it at the time? The reason
is that we get caught up in our dreams and forget to question
whether or not we are really awake. To learn lucid dreaming, it is
essential to learn to remember your intention to recognize when you
are dreaming.
Two ways of enhancing your ability to attain lucidity in dreams are:
first, develop your skill at remembering to do things in the future
and use specific mental exercises to encourage your memory in
dreams, and second, use a device to give you cues when you are in
dreaming sleep to remind you to notice that you are dreaming. The
best program combines both mental exercises and an external cueing
device.
MENTAL EXERCISES
You can learn the powerful mental techniques for stimulating lucid
dreams developed by Dr. LaBerge in A Course in Lucid Dreaming. For
example, the Reflection-Intention Technique centers around Reality
Testing: asking yourself many times a day whether or not you could
be dreaming, testing your reality, and focusing on how dreaming
differs from waking. MILD (Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams) is the
method Dr. LaBerge used to train himself to have lucid dreams up to four
times in a night. It involves intensely focused concentration on the
intention to remember to recognize when you are dreaming, practiced in
bed while going to sleep, and/or when you briefly awaken during the
course of the night.
Another set of mental techniques is based on the Tibetan Dream Yoga
tradition, and leads to entry into lucid dreams directly from the
waking state. This mode of entry, called Wake-Induced Lucid Dreaming
(WILD) is possible towards the end of a night's sleep and during
naps. Napping itself can be an extraordinarily powerful method. A
Course in Lucid Dreaming presents a procedure for napping to
stimulate lucid dreaming.
TRANCE INDUCTION
Many people find that their ability to create a sincere will to
succeed at an endeavor like lucid dreaming is boosted through
suggestions heard in a trance state. The Lucidity Institute's Trance
Induction of Lucid Dreaming audio tape, written and read by Dr.
LaBerge, is designed to enhance your ability to remember your
intention to become lucid.
ELECTRONIC LUCID DREAMING ASSISTANCE: CUEING LUCID DREAMS
In waking life, to help us remember to follow through on our
intentions, we use reminders, such as shopping lists or strings
around the finger. Obviously, we cannot write notes to ourselves and
carry them into our dreams, but we can make use of a cue to remind
us to check if we are dreaming.
A light or a sound of the right intensity can enter an ongoing
dream. You have probably experienced this with an alarm clock or
neighbor's lawnmower noise coming into your morning dream in a
disguised form. The Lucidity Institute lucid dream induction devices
give you cues when you are in REM sleep, when most dreams happen.
The cues are flashing lights, from bulbs mounted in a comfortable
sleep mask, or soft clicks or beeps from a small speaker in the
mask. When the cues enter your dreams, if you have prepared yourself
with mental exercises (from A Course in Lucid Dreaming), you will
recognize them and realize you are dreaming. You are then free to
explore the fantastic realm of lucid dreaming. Research has shown
that lucid dreams initiated by recognizing cues are as exciting and
fulfilling as those achieved by mental techniques alone.
ELECTRONIC LUCID DREAMING ASSISTANCE: REALITY TESTING
Reality testing requires examining the behavior of something in your
environment to see if it behaves as it would in waking life or as in
a dream. It is most effective if you pick one kind of test to do
every time. Reality testing works without any equipment; one of the
best tests is to read any text near you once, look away, then look
back and read it again. If it changes, or if you can get it to
change, then you are dreaming. The challenge can be in finding a
piece of writing in a dream, or remembering to look for one. The
Lucidity Institute lucid dream induction devices have a button to
make reality testing very simple.
The principle behind the Reality Testing button is that machines in
dreams usually do not work as expected. On the sleep mask of each is
a button, located over your forehead. When you press it, the lights
in the mask flash once and you hear a brief chirp or click.
Frequently when sleeping with one of the devices, people dream of
awakening in bed wearing the mask or of walking around with the mask
on. If you press the button on the dreamed version of your sleep
mask, it will not work right. Most often when people press dream
Reality Testing buttons, nothing happens. Sometimes you may get a
sound without a flash or something unexpected. In any case, if the
button "malfunctions," then you can be reasonably certain you are
dreaming. Thus, by simply training yourself to press the button every
time you wake up with the mask on, or wonder whether you are dreaming
anytime you find yourself wearing the mask, you have an easy, reliable
method of determining whether you are dreaming.
LECTURES, WORKSHOPS, AND TRAINING PROGRAMS
The Lucidity Institute and Dr. LaBerge periodically offer lectures,
workshops, and training programs. Topics include the science of
lucid dreaming, lucid dreaming for psychological growth, and methods
for learning lucid dreaming. NovaDreamer training programs include
instruction in using the lucid dream induction device and a discount
on the purchase of the device. To find out what events are coming up

LUCID DREAMING INDUCTION DEVICES AND ACCESSORIES
The DreamLink
Electronic Dream Recall Device
Everybody dreams. Scientific research shows that people who don't
remember their dreams tend not to awaken directly from REM sleep. When
people are awakened from REM sleep in the sleep laboratory, they
remember dreams 80-90% of the time. If you don't remember your dreams
as often as you'd like, and don't have a sleep laboratory, the
DreamLink was designed for you. The DreamLink helps you remember
your dreams by awakening you directly from REM sleep. It monitors your
sleep using exactly the same technology as its bigger brothers the
DreamLight and the NovaDreamer. The DreamLink is fully adjustable: you
can decide whether you'd like to be awakened early or late in the
night, as well as when during your REM period. If you later decide
you'd like to moveup to lucid dreaming, you can upgrade to a
NovaDreamer.
DreamLink Features include:
- REM-detection: Advanced microelectronics technology enables full
REM-sensing ability inside of a light, comfortable mask.
- Flexible programming: you can determine how long you dream before
the DreamLink wakes you.
- Extended snooze button: lets you decide how long you sleep before
the DreamLink awakens you from a dream.
- Compact and comfortable: All the electronics are in the soft,
flexible sleep mask. There are no attached wires or separate units.
- Battery power: No electric cords or recharging needed.
Operates for months on two AAA batteries.
- Simplicity: All controls and features are operated with a
single dial and a button.
- Upgradable to the NovaDreamer
The DreamLink package includes:

The NovaDreamer
Lucid Dream Induction Device
The NovaDreamer detects when you are dreaming by sensing the
movements of your eyes during REM sleep with photoelectric sensors.
The sensors are mounted in a sleep mask worn over your eyes (nothing
touches your eyelids). When the NovaDreamer's microprocessor
receives the right signals from the sensors and decides that you are
dreaming, it gives you a cue to remind you to recognize that you are
dreaming, that is, to become lucid.
The cue to become lucid is a light and/or a sound from the mask, in a
variety of patterns, according to your choice. It is just the right
brightness or volume to enter your dream without awakening you. This
is similar to your alarm clock or radio coming into your dream in
the morning. Having prepared to recognize the cue by following the
exercises accompanying the NovaDreamer, when the cue comes you
realize it is there to tell you that you're dreaming, and with your
new lucidity you are free to embark on unlimited adventure.
NovaDreamer Features include:
- REM-detection: Advanced microtechnology enables full REM-sensing
ability inside of a light, comfortable mask.
- Preset modes for easy use: Three preprogrammed settings for light,
medium, and deep sleepers allow you to get started right away with
minimal adjustments.
- Flexible programming: To customize the NovaDreamer's operations to
your needs, you can select cue brightness and duration, flash
frequency, sound, alternating flashes in the left and right eyes,
and varieties of cueing patterns.
- Reality-test button: Helps you to distinguish between the dreaming
and waking states, an additional aid to learning lucid dreaming.
- Feedback: The NovaDreamer will tell you how many cues you received
during the night so that you can readily adjust it for maximum
effectiveness.
- Compact and comfortable: All electronics are in a soft, flexible
sleep mask. There are no attached wires or separate units.
- Battery power: No electric cords or recharging needed. Operates
for months on two AAA batteries.
- Output jack for add-on devices: A computer interface that will connect
to the NovaDreamer through the built-in jack is under development. The
NovaDreamer may also be connected to the Programmable Electronic
State Tester (an alternative cueing device described elsewhere in this
catalog) through this jack.
- Simplicity: All controls and features are operated with a single
dial and a button.
The NovaDreamer package includes:
- A Course in Lucid Dreaming (Includes Trance tape)
- Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D.
and Howard Rheingold (Ballantine, 1986). This is the text for the
Course.
- One year of membership in the Lucidity Institute, with the
newsletter NightLight, and discounts on seminars and

The SuperNova Computer Interface for NovaDreamer
Add the power of your personal computer to your NovaDreamer with
this new interface kit. You can download the data on your sleep stored
by the NovaDreamer into your computer using the SuperNova Interface Box.
The SuperNova software will provide a graphical display of your sleep
period, showing the times of cues given, along with the settings you
used. You can enter your personal information (dreams and lucid dreams
recalled, cues seen, dream reports and notes, etc.), change the
NovaDreamer settings rapidly on-screen and upload them directly
into the NovaDreamer (bypassing the manual controls). You can keep
on file special sets of settings (yours and your spouse's or friend's
perhaps). The SuperNova package also upgrades your NovaDreamer with
new features previously only available on the DreamLight, such as a
wake-up alarm, a cue window for giving cues only during a specified
time (for example, after 6 hours of sleep), and feedback on when in
the night the NovaDreamer gave you cues. The SuperNovaDreamer offers
you the power and flexibility you need to master lucid dreaming.

The DreamLight
Lucid Dream Induction Device
The DreamLight is the state of the art in lucid dream induction
technology. Developed through years of research by Dr. LaBerge and
his colleagues at Stanford University, the DreamLight brings the
expertise of the sleep laboratory into your own home. It is a
miniature biofeedback computer with sensing apparatus to detect when
you are in REM sleep, in which dreaming occurs. When the DreamLight
decides that you are dreaming, it gives you a cue, either a flashing
light and/or sound, through the comfortable sleep mask. The cue reminds
you to recognize that you are dreaming.
Because the DreamLight has the "brain" of a personal computer, it
includes many sophisticated features. It stores up to ten nights
of data on your sleep, which allows very accurate adjustment
of the device to your particular rapid eye movement patterns. It
also can help you improve your dream recall with the Dream Alarm,
that awakens you from your dreams. (Other helpful features are
described below.) And, because the DreamLight is a microcomputer,
software upgrades and hardware add-ons will become available to keep
your DreamLight up-to-date as technology advances.
The DreamLight is suitable as a research tool as well as for
personal home use. For rates on purchases of quantities for research
or clinical application, please inquire.
DREAMLIGHT FEATURES
- REM detection. The DreamLight automatically determines when you
are dreaming and applies light and/or sound cues to stimulate you
to become lucid.
- Reality Testing. A button on the mask helps you to decide whether
or not you are dreaming.
- Dream Alarm. To enhance dream recall, the DreamLight can be set to
awaken you from your dreams with a series of tones.
- Wake-up alarm. Like an alarm clock, this features awakens you at
your chosen time in the morning with sound from the speaker in the
mask.
- Dream time markers. To keep track of your dream recall, you can
press a key during the night whenever you remember a dream (easily
done without removing the mask). In the morning, the DreamLight
will show the times at which you pressed the button to make the
times of dreams.
- Memory. The DreamLight remembers your selected settings and stores
up to 10 nights of data on your sleeping patterns.
- Highly programmable. You can pick from a wide range of cue types
and frequencies of cueing to ensure optimal operation for your
individual needs.
- Comfortable. The sleep mask is soft and light, permitting sleeping
in any position except nose down. The mask attaches to the control

an upgrade, you will receive instructions for sending your
DreamLight to us to have a new memory chip (ROM) installed.
Currently we are offering Version 4.0R, for DreamLights received
before January, 1995. New features include: the option of marking dream
times using the mask button; sleep mode screen displaying current state
of consciousness (waking, non-REM sleep, or REM sleep), eye count, body
movement, and cue/delay count; sleep staging mode, which allows you to
estimate the amount of time during the night spent awake, in non-REM
sleep, and in REM sleep; and the option to go backwards through modes.
If you are not sure whether you have the most current software, call the
Lucidity Institute. You pay for shipping the DreamLight to us, we
pay for its return.

Programmable Electronic State Tester (P.E.S.T.)
Do you ever have difficulty remembering to do reality tests several
times a day? Do you have other interests in life besides lucid dreaming
that prevent you from giving it the full focused attention you would
have if you were a Buddhist monk? Of course, if you had attained such a
degree of mastery of attention, you would also have complete command of
lucid dreaming, and be able to induce them whenever you desire. The rest
of us, however, could use a little "P.E.S.T." -- a helpful companion who
nags you every so often to Do A Reality Test Now!
The P.E.S.T.
(Programmable Electronic State Tester) rides with you throughout the
day, at work, home, or play, disguised as a beeper. Every so often, it
reminds you, with a beep, a flash of its LED "eyes", or a vibration (so
no one else knows what you're doing) that it's time to think about lucid
dreaming again. The P.E.S.T. has a built-in state tester; you press a
button and the P.E.S.T. flashes and beeps -- if you're awake. If you are
dreaming you're doing a state test with the P.E.S.T., because the
P.E.S.T. is a machine, it will probably not work right. In essence, the
P.E.S.T. brings the reminder features of the NovaDreamer and DreamLight
into your waking life. Then, to make the most of your day practice, you
can take the P.E.S.T. to bed with you. The P.E.S.T. attaches to your
NovaDreamer or DreamLight and gives you its vibration cue when you enter
a dream, in concert with (or instead of, if you wish) the cue to become
lucid given by the NovaDreamer or DreamLight.
The P.E.S.T. has a variety of adjustable features to suit your
individual need for nagging. You can choose fixed intervals for
reminders ranging from every ten minutes to once a day, or you can
select random intervals, occurring about every ten minutes (plus or
minus one to five minutes) up to about once a day (plus or minus two to
twelve hours), with plenty of intervals available in between. Randomness
offers the advantage of unpredictability, so your mind cannot learn to
"tune out" the P.E.S.T., knowing when the reminder will come. You can
also select to be nagged with a beep, a flash, or a vibration, or a
combination of these, depending on your situation. Most importantly,
P.E.S.T. offers you continuity and consistency in your lucid dream
development exercises. Unless you possess full powers of control over
your own mind, you can likely benefit from help from the P.E.S.T.
Includes A Course in Lucid Dreaming.

DreamSpeaker
The DreamSpeaker is used with a NovaDreamer or DreamLight to play a
digitally recorded message during REM sleep to help you recognize that
you are dreaming. Now your lucid dreaming induction devices, used in concert,
can remind you not only to become lucid in the most simple, direct manner
possible, but also of your desired goals once you reach that level of
consciousness. For example, if you want to fly when you become lucid,
you might record a message such as, "I'm dreaming and now I can fly!"
The DreamSpeaker is comprised of two components: a battery-operated
control unit and a pillow speaker. The control unit is a small black box
containing a microphone and the electronics necessary for digital sound
recording and interfacing with a REM detecting device. The pillow speaker
has a volume control and is attached to the control box by means of a
seven-foot cable. The control box is connected to the NovaDreamer or
DreamLight by means of another cable, and the speaker is placed
unobtrusively under one's pillow.
To use the DreamSpeaker, you first make a recording (up to 15 seconds in
length) by pressing a recording button on the control unit and speaking
into the microphone. Then you test the recording quality and volume by
triggering a cue (by pressing the appropriate button or buttons on the
NovaDreamer or DreamLight). Later that night... when you receive a light
cue from the mask (triggered by the rapid eye movements associated with
dreaming sleep) the DreamSpeaker will be activated as well. Thus, the
mask's light cue is reinforced as a lucidity trigger by words heard during
the dream.

BOOKS ON LUCID DREAMING
LUCID DREAMING
by Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D.
This is the seminal work that brought lucid dreaming to the
awareness of modern society and legitimized it as a valuable field
of scientific inquiry. It is still the best general reference on
lucid dreaming and a pleasure to read. The phenomenon of lucid
dreaming is explored from many angles, beginning with history of the
practice in human culture. LaBerge describes the early days of the
scientific research and tells the story of his successful challenge
of the established school of thought in sleep research, which held
that awareness while dreaming was impossible. He discusses many
methods of lucid dream induction, including how he taught himself to
have lucid dreams several times in a night. Other topics covered
include applications of lucid dreaming, the relationship of lucid
dreaming to out-of-body and near-death experiences, and the
possibility of lucid dreaming serving as a gateway or stepping stone
on the path to enlightenment. An intelligent and inspiring book!

EXPLORING THE WORLD OF LUCID DREAMING
by Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D. and Howard Rheingold
This is a very practical guide for lucid dreamers. The first half of
the book establishes a basic understanding of sleep and dreams,
followed by a progressive series of exercises for developing lucid
dreaming skills. These include cataloging "dreamsigns" (your
personal landmarks that tell you when you are dreaming), the
ReflectionIntention and MILD techniques for becoming lucid within
the dream, and methods of falling asleep consciously based on ancient
Tibetan Yoga practices. After the lucid dream induction techniques,
Dr. LaBerge presents his understanding of the origin of dreams,
based on current views in the sciences of consciousness and
cognition. This provides a foundation for the methods of employing
lucid dreams to enhance your life, which make up the second half of
the book. The applications described are: adventures and
explorations, rehearsal for living, creative problem-solving,
overcoming nightmares, healing, and discovery of expanded awareness
and spiritual experience. Many delightful anecdotes from lucid
dreamers illustrate the use of lucid dreams for each application.

CONSCIOUS MIND, SLEEPING BRAIN
edited by J. Gackenbach, Ph.D. and S. LaBerge, Ph.D.
Nineteen dream researchers and professionals contributed to this
scholarly volume. It represents a wide spectrum of viewpoints in the
field of lucid dreaming study, and is an essential reference for
anyone interested in studying lucid dreams or applying them in
clinical practice. Topics include: literature, psychophysiology,
personality, therapy, personal experience, related states of
consciousness, and more. (Hard cover, 447 pages.)

THE LUCID DREAMER: A WAKING GUIDE FOR THE TRAVELER BETWEEN WORLDS
by Malcolm Godwin
This new (hardback) book is beautifully illustrated with nearly 200
full-color and black-and-white illustrations of little-known dream masks
and Zen paintings, Aboriginal Australian art, North American paintings,
and works by modern native primitives, Surrealists, and schizophrenics.
The text is a well-written, thoughtful, and inspiring survey of lucid
dreaming as viewed primarily from a philosophical and mystical
perspective. If you have already read Lucid Dreaming and
Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming, we highly recommend this
new book!

a personal symbol to use for conjuring your confidence of your
ability whenever you desire. The background music, by space musician
Robert Rich, sets an ambiance of serenity and transcendental joy.

LUCIDITY INSTITUTE T-SHIRT
Wear the official Lucidity Institute Reality Test T-shirt and find
out how many people know whether or not they are dreaming. Featuring
a cool dream symbol below the word, "ONEIRONAUT" on front and reality
test on the back. A well-known reality test to determine whether or not
you are dreaming is to look at text twice: if the words change, you are
probably dreaming. If you think the back of this shirt asks "Have you
done a reality test today?" you had better read it more carefully. This
subtle demonstration of the power of assumption shows how asleep we
often are. Nine out of ten people will not correctly read what the sign
says the first time. A great conversation starter. Colors: White, Blue,
Ash, Yellow, Turquoise, and Red. Sizes: XS, S, M, L, and XL. Specify
size & color.

ONEIRONAUT NIGHT SHIRT
Lucidity Institute T-shirts now come in XX-large sizes for sleeping.
Like the T-shirt, people in your dreams may ask you to do a reality test
when they see your nightwear! Available in White, Pink, Baby Blue,
Turquoise, Lilac, Yellow, and Ash.

LUCIDITY INSTITUTE DREAM JOURNAL
Dream recall is the first prerequisite to learning lucid dreaming. Our
dream journal is designed for those dreamers who want to learn lucid
dreaming as well as those who want to record dreams. It is spiral bound
with a hard back so that it can be used without a desk. There is an
introduction on dream recall by Dr. LaBerge and each page has a section
for recording dreamsigns. After a short section of dreams there is a
special page for targeting dreamsigns and working on dreamsign
awareness. An invaluable aid to dream recall, writing down dreams upon
awakening is a way to better understand your own personal dream worlds
and work toward lucidity.

LIGHT PEN
For those who do not want to turn on lights in the middle of the night
and disrupt everyone's sleep just to write down that dream, we offer a
light pen. It is a sturdy pen with a cap and a replaceable bulb that
directs light down the cartridge shaft at the paper where you are
writing. It works with one AAA battery and also has replaceable
cartridges. Silver matte finish.

REALITY TEST BUMPER STICKER
Put this on your bumper and find out how many people know whether they
are asleep or awake. A well-known reality test to determine whether or
not you are dreaming is to look at text twice: if the words change, you
are probably dreaming. If you think this bumper sticker asks "Have you
done a reality test today?" you had better read it more carefully. This
subtle demonstration of the power of assumption shows how asleep we
often are. Nine out of ten people will not correctly read what the sign

THE LUCIDITY INSTITUTE MEMBERSHIP SOCIETY
JOIN THE LUCIDITY INSTITUTE MEMBERSHIP SOCIETY
The purpose of the Lucidity Institute is to advance research on the
nature and potentials of consciousness and to apply the results of
this research to the enhancement of human health and well-being. The
Lucidity Institute aims to encourage as many people as possible to
learn lucid dreaming and to use it to grow and improve their lives.
We also know that the people who see the potential of lucid dreaming
are the ones who can help most to map this new frontier and discover
its treasures. The Lucidity Institute membership society is an
organization for all people interested in lucid dreaming, novices
and experts, laymen and scientists.
Members receive our newsletter, NightLight, which
includes articles on lucid dreaming -- new findings, applications,
speculations, inspiring examples, and experiments for members to
participate in at home. The results from the experiments appear in
subsequent issues, so members can benefit from them. Some
experiments are of methods of inducing lucid dreams, or about
ordinary dreams, so that novice lucid dreamers can contribute.
Others test out activities and applications within lucid dreams.
Members who contribute to three experiments receive a free
NightLight renewal!
Other benefits of membership include guaranteed updates on
upcoming events and new products, discounts on merchandise and
workshops, and the opportunity to join the Lucidity Institute
Oneironautical Network (LION). LION is a non-mediated network of
Lucidity Institute members wishing to communicate with each other
about their experiences with lucid dreaming. If you sign up, we will
print your name and interests in a roster with others in the
network, and you will receive a copy.
The basic membership fee of $35 covers the cost of maintaining
the membership society and printing the NightLight. If you choose to
pay more or to join at a higher level, the additional fees will go
to fund research on lucid dreaming by Dr. Stephen LaBerge and his
colleagues at Stanford University.
