GHB on Trial

GHB (gamma-hydroxy butyrate) is a natural substance that has become extremely controversial over the past two years. It is best known for its ability to enhance sex at low doses while inducing deep sleep at higher doses. But there are widespread misunderstandings about whether it is: legal or illegal, available or not available, nutrient or drug, safe or potentially deadly, and more. Dr. Ward Dean is one of the most knowledgeable authorities in the country on GHB and has testified numerous times as an expert witness in GHB cases. This is not only a scientific/medical story, it's also a political story. The FDA, well-known to abhor any substance-natural or otherwise-that makes people feel good, has GHB (and GHB users) in its sights, despite the fact that it has offered no clear statement regarding any proven dangers. Although possession of GHB is currently legal in the US, FDA decrees have put its sale into a gray area that has led to numerous prosecutorial abuses that may violate the Sixth Amendment to the Constitution.
