Life Enhancement Products^TM breaks new ground this month with the introduction of the most advanced multinutrient formulation ever designed. It's called BioEnhance^TM, and it's the first such formulation ever created that takes into account the way we actually eat.

A multivitamin/multimineral formulation is the foundation upon which any good life-enhancing nutritional supplement program is built. Such formulations should supply a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other vital nutrients in sufficient amounts to provide significant benefits for most people.

But, until now, virtually all advanced formulations were based on the premise that people consume a carbohydrate-rich diet. The problem is, for increasing numbers of active, knowledgeable people (the government's "food pyramid" notwithstanding), proteins have come to be the dominant type of nutrient. This shift is reflected in the popularity of such high protein regimens as "The Zone" and others designed to limit insulin resistance. Until now, though, this important trend has been overlooked by formulation supplement designers.

What is the BioEnhance difference?
As CERI Director Steven Wm Fowkes, who consulted on the design of BioEnhance, points out, "the more protein in your diet, and the more active you are, the more minerals you lose and the more stress you put on your magnesium reserves."

To compensate for this, a daily dose of BioEnhance contains 450mg of magnesium, including magnesium oxide, magnesium citrate and magnesium aspartate. These provide a variety of chelating agents. Too much magnesium, however, can neutralize stomach acid. To counter this, the formulation contains a relatively large amount of vitamin C as ascorbic acid, which helps neutralize the high alkalinity of the magnesium and maintains the normal low pH of the stomach.

BioEnhance also contains smaller amounts of B-complex vitamins than other advanced formulations (using 10x RDA vs 100x RDA). The reasoning behind this is that enzyme saturation kinetics limits the amount of B-complex vitamins the body can actually use at any one time. Anything over that limit is likely to be wasted or underutilized.

Another major difference in BioEnhance is its emphasis on vitamin A in addition to beta carotene. "Too many formulations make the mistake of assuming that beta carotene offers all the health benefits of vitamin A and that the body will convert it to a sufficient level of vitamin A," says Steve.

BioEnhance is designed to emphasize the correct proportions of nutrients as well as the inclusion of significant physiologic amounts so that the dose can be halved or doubled without foregoing categorical benefits. This feature overcomes a problem with some advanced formulations where not taking the recommended number of capsules per day results in the intake of insufficient amounts of some nutrients.

BioEnhance is also very rich in methylating factors, including vitamin 12, betaine, DMAE, and choline. Methylating factors are important for neurotransmitter function and DNA stability, which can help avoid neural tube defects.
