DREAMING AND AWAKENING

The Practice of Lucidity in Dreaming and Waking,
Integrating the Perspectives of East and West

A 10-day Residential Training Program in
Lucid Dreaming and Tibetan Dream Yoga

with Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D. and Alan Wallace, Ph.D.

Stanford University, July 10-19, 1998

Becoming adept at lucid dreaming requires a degree of focused attention and practice that is difficult to maintain during our busy workaday lives. This retreat provides an ideal opportunity to devote ten nights and days exclusively to cultivating your lucid dreaming ability and enhancing your consciousness in everyday life. It is optimally structured based on research for fostering the experience of lucid dreaming. In past years, most retreat participants have achieved lucid dreams during the session.

We are especially excited this year to offer, in addition to the scientifically based methods of Dr. Stephen LaBerge, instruction in Tibetan Buddhist meditation and dream yoga by Alan Wallace, Ph.D. Dr. Wallace, professor of Tibetan Buddhism and language at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has written, translated or edited over twenty books on Tibetan Buddhism and practiced as a Buddhist monk for fourteen years. He has often served as translator to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The Tibetan Buddhist tradition has been training devotees in lucid dreaming techniques for over 1,000 years. Lucid dreaming practice provides seekers of enlightenment with direct experience of the illusory, dream-like nature of reality. Lucid dreaming is also believed to be essential practice for recognizing and controlling the bardo states that occur after death, allowing the practioner to consciously direct the process of rebirth or even to transcend the cycle of samsara (the suffering and attachment that Buddhists believe keep us bound in the illusory universe of worldly existence).

Join us and fellow oneironauts in this unique adventure! The retreat includes:
bullet Ten days and nights of focus on consciousness, dreaming and awakening on the beautiful, dream-inspiring Stanford University campus
bullet Daily group and individual exercises in developing lucid dreaming skills and enhancing consciousness, dreaming and waking
