How it all works - Sound and Light

Removing sound and light from the sense perception of your biological life form is tricky technology. An enclosed space can just as easily function as a drum and amplify sound rather than diminish it. Light loves to peek around corners, seep in through joints, and cheerfully conduct through material that seems to be opaque. The Samadhi Tank is the only tank that has consistenly succeeded in keeping light out. Glenn Perry, our designer, figures he knows more about sound transmission than most experts as a result of solving the practical problems that stand between him and his pursuit of the ultimate float experience. We have our attention rooted on solving any problems that can inhibit a high quality of experience.

To diminish sound, use Vibration Pads. Sounds that travel through the air are stopped first by the closed door to the tank room and next by having your ears underwater. Sounds that travel through the structure of the building can enter through the bottom of the tank. Vibration pads are good for stopping those sounds. To see (or hear) whether you need the pads, and most installations don't, put your ear on a wall close to the place you will put your tank. Cover the other ear. The sound you hear will be slightly less in the tank. If you use vibration pads, it will be considerably less. We supply eleven pads and a diagram of how to place them, and you supply a 1"thick sheet of plywood to place between the pads and the tank.
