The salt solution in your tank can be used indefinitely if you take a few
precautions. The most important thing is to shower and shampoo thoroughly before using
your tank. This removes all the dead skin and loose hair that could get into your tank. We
have heard of two tank owners who do not use any cleaning agents in their tank. They just
clean themselves thoroughly before they get in. But if you are not going to be the only
one using your floatation tank, it is harder to control the cleanliness of the solution.
Chemicals such as chlorine or bromine are used as bacteriacides, or you can minimize their
use with an ozonator or an ultra-violet system. We offer these as accessories to you tank.
Ozonator: This comes attached to your filtration system.
The principle of it is that O3 is generated which oxidizes all the dirt in the tank
leaving your solution smelling very good and keeping your water very clean. Ozone has been
used in Europe for water purification for a long time. It has become "popular in the
U.S.A. in the last 10 years.
Ultraviolet: This is also attached directly to your
filtration system. It works by passing the solution under an ultra violet lightbulb which
kills bacteria. The unit we provide consists of one 18" bulb centered in a 3"
(7.6cm) diameter pipe. Of course it is installed in a way that is completely safe.
