The floatation tank was developed to keep outside stimulation away, a
place where the environment would effect you as little as possible. Sight, sound,
temperature, gravity and the presence of other people were to be minimized. This is the
environment to examine your own responses, free of external input. Remove everything that
you can and then step in and see what happens.
It's easy to forget the influence of temperature until you are in an
extreme when the temperature becomes front page news. We usually operate automatically,
i.e. add a sweater, take off a sweater, open a window, close a window, turn on the heater,
turn off the heater, to adjust to temperature changes. A section of our attention is
devoted to temperature maintenance. Another detail that keeps us in motion.
In the floatation tank, the ideal condition is that the sensation of
temperature is at rest, and that is achieved by maintaining the tank temperature at the
temperature of your skin. Your skin temperature is about 4 or 5 degrees lower than your
internal body temperature which is 98.6 degrees for most of us.
The variation in range for personal skin temperature is pretty small, 93
degrees F to 95 degrees F , 34 degrees C to 35 degrees C. When you have the correct
temperature in the tank, the boundary between your skin and the outside world appear to
dissolve. Your body doesn't seem to end, rather it flows out into its entire surroundings.
You want a very good temperature controller to keep the water temperature exactly where
you want it.
The volume of water in the tank is too large to change quickly. If more
than one person is using the tank, small changes in temperature can produce large results.

User Comfort Control: This allows fine tuning of the
ambient temperature. It can be activated from inside or outside.This innovative device
breaks new ground in user comfort.The floater does not have to be at the
"compromise" temperature, but can actually produce a change that makes a
difference.
Digital Temperature Controller: Fine tunes to a tenth of
a degree with great simplicity. The face of the controller has 2 pads, up and down. Press
with a finger and change the set temperature by one tenth of a degree at a time. The
readout lets you know when the change is complete.
Thermometer: This one has a sensor that you can place
alongside the sensor of your thermostat to see what your tank temperature is.
